Fondazione "Barone Giuseppe Lucifero di S.Nicolò"

Historical Background

Genealogic tree

Among the oldest and most prestigious families of Milazzo, there must surely be a mention of the Luciferos, lords of Armero, Malapezza and Zinga, Marquises of Apriglianello and Barons of San Nicolò, the members of which have held, especially under the Bourbons, the top ranks in the civil and judicial administration of the city for centuries (XXX, Supreme Court Chiefs).

The Lucifero family was in possession of several mansions, used in different periods of the year, the most important of which was "La Villa" (The Mansion) on the Cape Milazzo, located inside the vast Feudal barony of San Nicolò (hence the district's name), a complex area full of olive and vineyards, which, in the 17th century, belonged to the Baeli family as a fief, after which it was inherited in 1751, alongside the nobiliar title, to Paolo Lucifero, ancestor of Baron Giuseppe Lucifero.

In the post-war period the family (and its large amount of possessions) were managed by Maria Lucifero, the unmarried daughter of the Baron Giuseppe and last direct heir, who died in Bari the 19th of December 1956, and who, with her holographic will, bound a significant part of the Luciferos' possessions to the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, and with it the responsibility to assign the proceeding incomes to a Foundation, the goals of which were to be the "founding of a permanent colony for frail and needy children, in particular those born in Milazzo and Cape Milazzo."
